BATON ROUGE--Â With three event victories and 11 top-three finishes, the Southern Miss track and field team finished up their time at the Lloyd Wills Invitational, which was held at LSU on Saturday, April 8. In the 3000-meter run, senior Carlin Beal also broke a meet record.
"We had a few event victories and personal bests. Week after week, our kids continue to find improvement. They know where work needs to be done and adjust themselves accordingly. I am very proud of them. As we enter the second half of the season, we are eager to keep this pace", according to head coach Jon Stuart.
Carlin Beal, Mandeville, La. native, recorded a second-place showing in the 3000-meter run. She clocked a time of 10:13.82 for a personal best and meet record. Beal's time puts her at the number seven spot in the all-time records in program history, which has stood since 2013.Â
With the squad's performances this weekend, the men's four by 400 team of Okheme Moore, Omar Austin, DJ Butler, and Mar'Ques McCray found a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:14.25 for a season-best which puts them third in the conference. The women's four-by-four team of Trinity Benson, Trinity Flagler, Sav'ia Varnell, and Destiny Charles sits second in the conference with a time of 3:42.40 for a season-best.Â
