HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team (6-8, 1-6 Sun Belt) is set for their double match weekend. The Golden Eagles' first stop will be in Huntington, W.Va., to face Marshall (11-6, 5-2 Sun Belt) at 9 a.m. Saturday, then they will travel to Boone, N.C., to take on App State (8-6, 5-2 Sun Belt) Sunday at 9 a.m.
The last time the Golden Eagles took the court was April 1-2 in Hattiesburg, the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, against Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. The Black and Gold fell to both teams. The Eagles handed them a 4-0 loss on Saturday, and the Chanticleers delivered a 4-1 loss to the Black & Gold on Sunday. On Saturday, with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles on Saturday, Georgia Southern won the doubles point. Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel's pair went unfinished. The Eagles completed the victory by winning three singles matches in straight sets.
On Sunday morning, Yazgan and Richter overcame Megan Hopton and Anna Babayan in a nail-biting 6-4 encounter to start the Golden Eagles' day on the right foot. Regrettably, Coastal won the doubles point due to the other two Southern Miss pairs falling in their matches. At positions No. 4 and No. 6 in singles play, Zenn Lim and Hannah Chambers went unfinished.
Southern Miss approaches this weekend's contest against two familiar opponents. App State and Southern Miss met up in Charleston, S.C., on March 14, 2014, where the Golden Eagles took four singles victories in claiming a 5-2 win. Marshall and Southern Miss met up last season for the Conference USA Championships opening round in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on April 21. The Golden Eagles fell 4-2 against the Thundering Herd.
Saturday and Sunday's match-up is slated for 9 a.m. CST.
