Women's Tennis Welcomes Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina April 1-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team (6-6,1-4 Sun Belt) will take on Georgia Southern (12-3, 3-1 Sun Belt) and Coastal Carolina(12-4, 4-0 Sun Belt) at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex April 1 and April 2.Â
Southern Miss traveled to Harrisonburg, Va., to face James Madison, where they lost 4-1. Alyssa Richter and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan upset Kylie Moulin and Ines Oliveria in doubles 6-2. However, despite their momentum, James Madison won the doubles point with scores of 6-2 at No. 2 and 6-4 at No. 3. Zenn Lim easily defeated Oliveria in singles play on court four, 6-1, 6-0. Maddison Ricardo and Hannah Chambers were left unfinished on courts five and six.
The team then traveled to Norfolk to play No. 23 Old Dominion on Sunday and was trounced 4-0. The No. 36 doubles team in the nation, Sofia Johnson and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya defeated Yazgan and Richter 6-2 in doubles on court one. Suhana Das was slated to play singles against No. 20 Sasnouskaya on court 1, but she lost 6-0, 6-3.
In their inaugural meeting, the Golden Eagles defeated Georgia Southern 6-1 on March 11, 2016, in Statesboro, Georgia. The Black & Gold won the doubles point with matching scores of 6-3 and went on to win five of the six singles matches as well.
This will be the first encounter between Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers are on a 12-game winning streak going into the weekend after defeating Louisiana 4-1 and Texas State 6-1.
First serve at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex on Saturday and Sunday will be at 10:00 a.m. All home matches are free entry; the seniors will be honored this weekend.Â
