HATTIESBURG, Miss.--The Southern Miss women's tennis team (6-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) will compete against James Madison (7-5, 3-0 Sun Belt) on Saturday before traveling to Norfolk, Virginia, on Sunday to take on Old Dominion (8-4, 3-0 Sun Belt).
The Golden Eagles will take the court alongside the Dukes and the Monarchs for the first time in the program's history.
On March 17, Southern Miss defeated Texas State 5-2 at San Marcos, Texas, for their first conference victory of the year. With a 6-3 victory in doubles play on court one, Alyssa Richter and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan got the Golden Eagles off to a quick start. Unfortunately, Texas State took the doubles point by finding wins on courts 2 and 3. Richter kept up her outstanding play, winning in singles on court two to give Southern Miss its first point of the day. The sophomore picked up her second victory of the year with ease, defeating Emily Niers 6-2, 6-3. Yazgan had to leave the game early, and the Bobcats took back the lead 2-1.To secure the road victory, the Golden Eagles reeled off four wins in a row from Maddison Ricardo, Hannah Chambers, Zenn Lim, and Clara Tardivel.
Old Dominion will play this weekend after defeating Marshall 5-2, while James Madison enters the weekend with a 4-3 victory over App State.
First serve is slated for noon Saturday at the Hillside Courts and Sunday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center; live stats for the match against James Madison will be available here.Â
