HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Robbie Latter and Cameron Clarke each collected a solid final round Tuesday to lead Southern Miss to a 10th-place tie at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas.
Being played at the par 72, 7,067-yard Golf Club of Houston, Latter fired a final-round 70, while Clarke added an even-par round to push the Golden Eagles up five places in the final standings.
"Hats off to Robbie and Clarke for leading the way for our team this week," said Southern Miss men's golf coach Eddie Brescher. "Both of these guys have been consistently steady performers for our team this year. Robbie hit the ball well, like he always does. But this week, he has a new putter in play and it showed with more made putts.
"Clarke grabbing another top ten comes as no surprise. He is our leader who displays a toughness that you can't teach. I am very proud of these guys."
Clarke was the top finisher with a 54-hole score of two-under 214, to place tied for eighth. With Latter's final round, he moved up 19 spots in the final standings, finishing tied for 14th with a one-over 217.
Ryan Dupuy added a final-round 76 to end with a 226 and in a 57th-place tie, while Thongpipat Rattanayanon shot his best round of the tournament – a 74 – to end with a 229 and a 71st-place tie.
Tommy Latter rounded out the Golden Eagle scorers with a 77 over his last 18 holes to finish at 235 and in a 96th-place tie.
"I am very proud of our guys for fighting to the finish line this week," said Brescher. "After our slow start in round one, our guys showed patience, toughness, and maturity to scratch out a top ten this week."
The Golden Eagles tied for 10th with an 886-team score, tying them with both Texas State and North Texas. Ole Miss won the team competition with a 855, followed by both Tennessee and Louisville in second at 859, Kansas State in fourth at 866 and Sam Houston in fifth at 868.
Bennett Ruby, who was playing as an individual, carded his best round over the final 18 holes with a 74 and ended his 54 holes with a 229.
The Golden Eagles play their final regular-season tournament at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in West Point, Miss., Apr. 3-4, before the Sun Belt Conference event later next month.
