Jacksonville State Tops Men's Tennis on Monday Afternoon

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Jacksonville State (8-6) topped the Southern Miss men's tennis team on Monday afternoon via a 5-2 score. The Golden Eagles (6-7) picked up wins from Dakotah Bobo and Shamirul Shahril to get two points on the road.
"I thought we battled hard today, but there were areas we could have executed a bit better in," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We have a quick turnaround before we play at Coastal Carolina on Thursday, and we'll need to be at our best."
The Gamecocks got the afternoon started with doubles wins on court one and three to claim the coveted point. Alan Sanson and Alexander Gima went unfinished on court two. Bobo and Shamirul fell as the Golden Eagles' top pairing, while Saheb Sodhi and Pasawee Reansuwong fell on court three.
Bobo put the Golden Eagles on the board with a three-set win against Xavier Sarda Marti. The LSU transfer dropped the first set before storming back to take the final sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Shahril then got Southern Miss another point with a sweep on court two against Alin Fatu. Unfortunately, Jacksonville State claimed the rest of the matches to clinch the match.
Southern Miss will head to Coastal Carolina on Thursday, March 16. The match in Conway, S.C. will mark the first Sun Belt match for the men's tennis team.
