Men's Golf in 11th after Opening Day at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team opened play at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas, Monday, holding down 11th in the 16-team field following 36 holes.
The tournament, which is being played at the par 72, 7,148-yard Westwood Golf Club, saw the Golden Eagles shoot rounds of 293 and 295 for a 588 stroke total.
The No. 49-ranked Golden Eagles had a pair of players shoot an even-par 72 over the day's final round, coming from junior Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) and graduate student Cameron Clarke (Pittsboro, Miss.). After shooting a 73 in the opening round, Latter ended the day with a 145 and is the highest placed Golden Eagle who is tied for 30th.
Both Clarke, and sophomore Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), sit a stroke behind Latter at 146. Clarke posted a opening-round score of 74, while Dupuy shot a pair of 73s with both players tied for 36th.
Junior Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) fired rounds of 73 and 80 for a 153 and a 75th-place tie, while junior Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) found himself one stroke behind his teammate with a 154 (76 and 78) to hold a 79th-place tie.
Sam Houston leads the team standings with a 558, followed by Oral Roberts (564), Houston (567) and Lamar (567), along with UT Arlington (568) to round out the top five.
The final 18 holes takes place Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow the live scoring by clicking here.
