Lady Eagles Head East for Morning Tip Against Georgia State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball travels to Atlanta, Ga. for a Thursday morning matchup against Georgia State. Tipoff from the Panther's GSU Convocation Center is set for 10 a.m. CST / 11 a.m. EST tomorrow, Feb. 16.
Last Time Out
The Lady Eagles moved to 16-9 on the season and 9-5 in Sun Belt play after an 80-68 victory over Coastal Carolina. The 12-point victory is all the more impressive because the visiting Chanticleers led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter before Southern Miss stormed back to end the quarter down two.
Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La. // LSU) collected her third double-double of her career after a 25-point, 10 rebound double-double to lead the Lady Eagles all the way back over Coastal.
Five Lady Eagles finished in double-figure scoring as the Black & Gold cruised in the second half to their 12-point win.
Noting the Lady Eagles
Southern Miss enters the game as the 52nd-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 58.6 points per game through 25 contests. The squad also owns a +3.6 scoring margin.
The Lady Eagles also rank 81st in rebounds, averaging 38.92 boards per game, which is sixth-best in the Sun Belt. The team's offensive rebounding is even more impressive, notching in at 37th with 14.1 O-boards per contest.
Southern Miss' third quarter abilities have continued through the year as the Lady Eagles outscore opponents by 108 points in the third frame and by 147 points in wins. In the second half, Southern Miss currently outperforms opponents by 132 points and by 200 points in wins.
Scouting the Panthers
Georgia State enters the week riding a four-game losing streak after spending the last two weeks away from home. The 10-17 Panthers are ranked 10th in the conference with a 4-10 record against SBC opponents.
The Panthers only have 10 players available on their roster, but each of them has seen significant playing time at one point or another this season. All 10 have started at least two games this season with Mikyla Tolivert leading the group with 25 starts.
Tolivert also leads Georgia State with 370 points and a 14.8 points per game average. Deasia Merrill joins her as the primary Panther offensive attackers, averaging 13.5 points per game and scoring 365 on the year.
Tolivert has been a master of getting to the line as 101 of her 370 points have come via the free throw. She converts her charity stripe attempts at an 84.2 percent clip.
Despite losing their last four, the Panthers have won their last two at home and are 7-5 in the GSU Convocation Center this season.

Southern Miss and Georgia State first met in 1976 although the exact date is currently unknown. The Lady Eagles took the first matchup 74-67 in Reed Green Coliseum before dropping the next two.
The Lady Eagles are 3-2 over the Panthers all-time and are riding a two-game series win streak into Atlanta tomorrow. Southern Miss gained the series lead last year with a 64-56 win over Georgia State on Dec. 1, 2021 at the GSU Sports Arena.
Tomorrow's game marks the first game Southern Miss will play at the GSU Convocation Center. Overall, Southern Miss is 1-1 in Atlanta against the Panthers and 2-2 all-time away from Reed Green Coliseum.
