HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball connected on 54.5 percent of its shots to overpower Mississippi College in a 96-44 exhibition win at Reed Green Coliseum. Four Lady Eagles finished with double-figure scoring and all 10 players that took the floor notched at least five points.
As head coach Joye Lee-McNelis looked on from the stands, acting head coach Jack Trosper and the rest of the Lady Eagles wasted no time in positioning themselves for the win. Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss.) won the opening jump ball and eventually got the first points of the night just 20 seconds into the game off a pass from Morgan Sieper (Tampa, Fla.)
Sieper, a true freshman in making her first collegiate start, finished the day tied for the title of leading scorer with 16 points and with the second-most rebounds on the night with eight. Sieper also led the team in minutes played and shot an efficient 6-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Jacorriah Bracey (Drew, Miss.) added in 16 points of her own and another five rebounds to help pace the Lady Eagles' scoring efforts. Brikayla Gray (Hebron, Miss.) made her return to play after missing all of the 2022-23 season with an injury. On 18 minutes, Gray tallied 11 points after 601 days on the sidelines, making her presence known on both sides of the ball.
Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La.) played just 20:15, a far cry from her average of 32 minutes per game last season, but still managed 14 points. Asjha Leake (Cibolo, Texas) collected nine rebounds to lead both squads on the glass.
