HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team is all set to host the Golden Eagle Fall Invitational this weekend, taking place on Friday and Saturday at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. Action kicks off both days at 9 a.m.
"I'm thrilled to host our inaugural 2023 Golden Eagle Fall Invitational. We've received a number of entries from multiple teams in the Southern Region. Our team has put in extensive effort and made thorough preparations to face off against a formidable competition," head coach Piyanart Engineer.
Last time out: In their previous outing at the ITA Southern Regionals in Baton Rouge, the Southern Miss women's tennis team fought valiantly but faced an 8-6 set loss to the No.2 seed, Alabama. Zenn Lim, who battled her way through the final qualifying round to secure a spot in the main draw, showcased her skills in consecutive matches. However, she narrowly missed victory in a closely contested third set, losing 7-5 against Mississippi State. The doubles pair of Suhana Das and Lim also gave it their all but fell short in a thrilling match against Alabama, concluding their impressive run at the ITA Southern Regionals.
Golden Eagle Invitational: The Golden Eagle Invitational begins on Friday with a doubles session, followed by two singles matches. Saturday starts with a single match and concludes with two doubles matches. Doubles matches will be played with regular six-game sets, while singles matches will follow a two-out-of-three format with a 10-point tiebreaker if needed.
This event is ITA-sanctioned and features the participation of teams from Louisiana, ULM, UNO, North Alabama, Jacksonville State, and Southeastern Louisiana.
On both days, the match ups kick off at 9 a.m., and entry to the matches at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex are free of charge.
