Golden Eagles Host South Alabama to Open Four-Game Homestand

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- On the heels of a four-game road trip, the Southern Miss men's basketball team will flip the script to a four-game homestand that starts on Thursday night against South Alabama (8-10, 2-4 SBC). The Golden Eagles (15-4, 4-2 SBC) have not played at Reed Green Coliseum since Dec. 31 and will tipoff against the Jaguars at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

Golden Eagle Nuggets
- DeAndre Pinckney and Austin Crowley have both been named Sun Belt Player of the Week over the course of the two-week road trip
- Crowley went for 20 points in Thursday's 89-67 loss at Marshall. Felipe Haase added 14 and Mo Arnold added 12
- In Saturday's win at Arkansas State, Denijay Harris poured in a career-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor
- Pinckney went for a career-high 24 points and added 11 rebounds in a 65-60 win at ULM on Jan. 7
- Southern Miss is off to its best conference start since the 2011-12 season when it opened C-USA play 7-1
- Its 13 wins are the most before New Year's Day and tie the 13 wins the 2011-12 team recorded before the holiday
- The Golden Eagles picked up their first Sun Belt win in program history in a 64-60 win against Troy on Dec. 29, 2022
- Crowley has scored at least 10 points in each of his last 10 games, including a career-high 30 against App State
- Crowley (17.4), Haase (14.5) and Pinckney (13.1) are the only Golden Eagles averaging double-digit points per game
- As of Thursday morning, Southern Miss ranked 36th in scoring defense (63.2), 25th in scoring margin (12.4), 27th in steals per game (9.2), 23rd in turnover margin (4.0) and 35th in turnovers forced per game (16.2)
- Haase (1504 -787-292) is closing in on becoming the sixth active player in Division I basketball to have at least 1,500 points, 800 rebounds and 300 assists since the 2017-18 season.
- The Golden Eagles lead the Sun Belt in scoring defense at 63.2 points per game
- Southern Miss had a record-breaking day in the steals department against Lamar on Dec. 10 as its 21 steals was the fourth most in a single game in program history- Three days later it set a program record for three-point attempts when it tried 42 at Lamar on Dec. 13
- Pinckney (7.4) and Haase (6.9) pace the Golden Eagles on the glass, while Pinckney leads the with 140 total rebounds
- Jay Ladner went back to his usual starting five with Crowley, Arnold, Harris, Pinckney and Haase. That grouping is 6-2 when it starts for Southern Miss this season
Scouting the Jaguars
- South Alabama heads into Thursday's game following a 79-76 loss to Louisiana on Saturday afternoon
- The Jaguars are 8-10 overall, and 2-4 in Sun Belt play
- Big man Kevin Samuel is the Division I active career leader in rebounds with 1,211 and is averaging 2.5 blocks per game this season
- Isaiah Moore leads the offensive charge at 17.6 points per game. He has scored 10-plus points in all 17 games he's appeared in this season
- Samuel (11.1) and Greg Parham II (10.0) each average 10-plus points per game along with Moore
- Samuel is averaging 9.6 rebounds per game and has 163 in the 17 games he's appeared in
Series History
- Thursday's game marks the 47th all-time meeting between the two schools
- Southern Miss leads the series 26-20, including a 14-9 record in Hattiesburg
- Southern Miss' last win in the rivalry came via a 71-67 score in 2018
- South Alabama has won five of the last meetings since 2016
