Promoted to AA on July 3 and made his first appearance that evening in a start against Rocket City. Suffered first loss of the year in only his second start of the season but limited the Trash Pandas to just two runs over four innings on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his Smokies debut. Also, threw three scoreless frames in his final outing in South Bend in which he allowed three hits and fanned four at Beloit (June 30) before promotion.
