Pitching Trio Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Teams

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – A trio of Southern Miss pitchers earned selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South Region teams Wednesday.
Sophomore righthanders Tanner Hall (Zachary, La.) and Hurston Waldrep (Thomasville, Ga.) collected first-team honors, while Hunter Riggins (Hernando, Miss.) placed on the second team.
Hall, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and Collegiate Baseball first-team All-American, finished the year with a 9-3 record and a 2.81 earned run average over 109 innings of work. He fanned 146 and walked just 14 during the year. Following the super regional round of games, Hall ranks nationally No. 3 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.43), No. 4 in strikeouts and No. 11 in walks per nine innings (1.16).
The Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist also captured two C-USA Pitcher of the Week awards during the year.
Waldrep, another two-time C-USA Pitcher of the Week award winner, recorded a 6-2 record with a 3.20 ERA. In 90 innings in 2022, Waldrep whiffed 140 and walked 33 and hitters hit just .213 against him.
Waldrep earned first-team All-Conference USA honors as well during the season and ranks No. 3 nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (14.00) and No. 8 in strikeouts.
The pair combined for the most strikeouts in Golden Eagle history with 286 and later this month the duo will report to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp with an opportunity to make a squad that will participate in Honkbal Week in Haarlem, Netherlands next month.
As for Riggins, he posted an 8-4 record with a 2.59 ERA and fanned 85 over 97 1/3 innings with 21 walks. His ERA ranks No. 27 nationally following the super regionals.
The trio helped the Golden Eagles to a 47-19 record, a sixth C-USA regular season title, a regional championship and helped the school play host to its first super regional.
