JACKSON, Miss. --Â Southern Miss right-hander Tanner Hall is one of five finalists for the Ferriss Trophy, which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate baseball player in Mississippi. The five finalists will be in attendance on Monday, May 23 when the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and Pearl River Resort present this year's trophy.Â
The Zachary, La. native owns a 7-2 record and a 2.60 ERA over 14 appearances this season. Hall has posted 10-plus strikeouts in five outings and recorded a season-high 14 against Old Dominion on May 6. The sophomore has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on two occasions and garnered a National Player of the Week nod by Collegiate Baseball.Â
Hall's 11.70 strikeout-to-walk ration ranks second amongst all Division I arms and leads all C-USA pitchers with 117 strikeouts. He has enjoyed four outings of at least eight innings and has only had two outings where more than one walk was issued to a batter.Â
The four other finalists include Tim Elko (Ole Miss), R.J. Yeager (Mississippi State), Harrison Haley (Delta State) and Brett Sanchez (Belhaven). Voters include the college baseball coaches from around the state and a group of professional scouts who cover the state.Â
