Hurston Waldrep Wins Second-Straight C-USA Pitcher of the Week Honor

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss sophomore right-hander Hurston Waldrep (Thomasville, Ga.) captured his second consecutive Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors Monday in an announcement by the league office. The 2022 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
Waldrep limited one of the better-hitting teams in Conference USA to a single and three walks as he threw seven-shutout innings in an 8-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Sunday for the No. 18 Golden Eagles to capture the series against the Bulldogs. Waldrep added 10 strikeouts - his third-straight double-digit strikeout performance - while retiring 14 of the final 15 batters he faced. He has not allowed a run over his last 14 innings of work.
He finished with 91 pitches, with 59 for strikes.
Old Dominion outfielder/infielder Andy Garriola was named Hitter of the Week.
The award was the second for Waldrep in his career as he was the first Golden Eagle pitcher to win this honor in consecutive weeks since Barry Bowden did it in 2008.
The Golden Eagles return to action, Tuesday, when they travel to Pearl to face in-state foe Ole Miss in a 6 p.m. contest at Trustmark Park. Southern Miss is the designated visiting team in the game.
