TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Southern Miss track and field team continued to enjoy a successful outdoor season, as the team saw another school record and multiple personal records fall over the weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
"We continue to do a lot of things well, while still having room to improve," head coach Jon Stuart said. "I'm really proud of Sandra for breaking her own record in the 800 and all of our athletes who were able to do some great things over the weekend. We have one more opportunity to get better before it's show time at the conference meet."
Senior Sandra Szpott broke her own program record in the 800M with a personal-best 2:07.02 on Saturday, after previously setting the record at the Joe May Invite two weeks ago.
On Friday, Jordan Speer got the meet started with a third place finish in the hammer throw, while teammate Alexis Morris improved her PR by nearly five feet.
In the 1500M, Rebecca DeKay raced to an 11 second personal-best, with fellow distance teammate Carlin Beal shaved seven seconds off her lifetime best in the 5000M.
The women's 4x100 relay of Trinity Flagler, Kenia Seals, Destiny Charles and Trinity Benson took second with a time of 45.23 to open the competition on the track Saturday.
Marquasha Myers pushed to a time of 13.65 in the 100M hurdles for a third place finish and a new lifetime best in the event.
After recording a PR in Auburn last weekend, Ashlee Osaji continued to put together a solid outdoor campaign with a third place finish, leaping 19'8".
Transfer Kenia Seals, took fifth in the 100M with a time of 11.71, while two-sport athlete Dee Baker had his best time of the season in the 200M.
Southern Miss will conclude the regular season next weekend at the Maroon and White Invite hosted by Mississippi State.
