Melich Leads Day One Charge at Chattanooga Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team sits within striking distance of the top spot of the leaderboard after the first round at the Chattanooga Classic. The Golden Eagles fired a 302 on Sunday afternoon to finish tied for sixth with Old Dominion and Chattanooga.
Freshman Elena Melich was the highest Southern Miss finisher on day one, sitting tied for 13th after firing a one-over 73. Melich record a pair of birdies and shot par on the back nine, while going one-over par on the front nine. Junior Friend Chompitakdacha was close behind with a three-over 75 and sits tied for 27th.Â
Freshman Momoka Ando carded three birdies en route to finishing with a five-over 77 and is tied for 47th with fellow Golden Eagle Merche Corbacho. Corbacho tallied one birdie during her opening round.Â
Tenley Moretti will get the second round started on Monday morning with an 11:30 a.m. tee time. Melich will be the last Golden Eagle off at 12:06 p.m.
