Men's Tennis Returns Home for Four-Match Homestand Starting Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss men's tennis team returns to Hattiesburg on Thursday afternoon to host Nicholls (7-6, 0-1 Southland) after a week-long trip to the USTA National Tennis Campus in Florida. First serve from the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m. Admission to the match is free.Â
"We're excited to finally get back home and play in front of our fans," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "These next four matches are huge for our guys and will set the tone for the final stretch of the season before the conference tournament at the end of April.Â
"I was really pleased with Antoine's performance in Orlando and winning all three of his matches. He was one of several guys that I thought played really well and used the week to work on improving small details."
The Golden Eagles (4-7, 0-2 C-USA) are coming off a positive week in Orlando with wins over IUPUI and North Dakota. Junior Antoine Audrain cruised to a three-win week with three sweeps on court four (two) and court five (one). Audrain moved his season mark to 5-3. Shamirul Shahril picked up singles win against North Dakota and Saint Joseph's to match Audrain with five wins. Christopher Cahour also picked up a win in Friday's loss to the Jaguars and moved his record to 3-5.Â
Scouting the ColonelsÂ
- Nicholls heads to Hattiesburg sporting a 7-6 mark and recently swept Loyola New Orlans, 7-0.
- The Colonels are 1-4 on the road with its lone road win coming against Loyola New Orleans in the season opener.Â
- Nicholls (L, 1-6) and Southern Miss (L, 3-4) both have dropped matches to Lamar this season.Â
- Sophomore Omar Morsey leads the charge for Nicholls with an 9-4 record at the top singles spot -- he's won his last three matches.
- Pavle Drobnjakovic and Antonio Sasso have combined for 15 wins across courts three, four, five and six.Â
- Nicholls is 16-14 in doubles play and seven of those wins coming on court three.Â
