Men's Tennis Falls to Saint Joe's in Florida Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team ended its spring break trip in Florida with a 4-3 loss to Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (4-7, 0-2 C-USA) finished 2-1 in three matches at the USTA National Tennis Campus this week.
"Despite losing today, I am very pleased with how we played this week," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Not only was it a great week to imrpove on the court, but it was also a great week in terms of the guys coming togother off the court during down time."
The Hawks (6-2, 0-0 A10) extended their winning streak to four matches and jumped to an early lead after taking the doubles point from Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles took an early lead in doubles play after Antoine Audrain and Shamirul Shahril glided to a 6-3 win at the third flight, but Saint Joe's quickly clawed back to take the overall doubles point. Pasawee Reansuwon and Dhruv Sunish fell 6-3 at the top flight; then Pawin Jirapoomdaje and Alexander Gima fell 6-4 on court two.
Shahril cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win in singles play to even the match at one-all and then Christopher Cahour put Southern Miss in the lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court six. The Hawks quickly regained the lead with wins on court one and five. Audrain extended his winning streak to three matches and extended after winning 7-6(3), 6-3 on court four. Knotted at three, Alp Sentay held off Olimjon Nabiev on court three to secure the win for Saint Joe's.
Audrain and Shahril eached notched their team-leading fifth win. Shahril's win was his second in as many days and is now 5-4 on the season. The Golden Eagles head back to Hattiesburg and open a four-match homestand on Thursday against Nicholls.
