Southern Miss Set to Take on Alabama, UAPB in Trio of Midweek Games

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team is set for a trio of midweek matchups against No. 2 Alabama and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Golden Eagles welcome the Crimson Tide to Hattiesburg on Tuesday, March 15 before heading to Pine Bluff, Ark. for a doubleheader against UAPB on Wednesday, March 16.
The Golden Eagles last took the field for their first Conference USA series against North Texas last weekend. Southern Miss (17-8, 0-3 C-USA) was unable to capture a win against the Mean Green, falling by scores of 2-0, 7-1 and 5-4.
Southern Miss has been led by graduate outfielder, Destini Brown. The McComb, Miss. native leads the Golden Eagles in runs (28), home runs (5) and stolen bases. Brown became the second active student-athlete in the nation to collect 100 career steals last weekend and has been successful in all 19 attempts to improve position.Â
Alabama heads to Hattiesburg as the No. 2 team in the nation, as ranked by both the NFCA and ESPN.com polls. The Crimson Tide holds a record of 21-2 and recently went 1-2 in a three-game series in Baton Rouge against LSU.Â
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions take on Southern Miss on Wednesday after picking up their second win of the season on Monday. UAPB holds a 2-16 record and clinched its first SWAC victory over the Southern Lady Jaguars by a score of 4-0.Â
The Golden Eagles take on the Crimson Tide for the second-consecutive season and host Alabama for the first time since 2018. Southern Miss trails in the all-time series, 14-2. Southern Miss last defeated Alabama on Feb. 22, 2006 at the Southern Miss Softball Complex by a score of 3-2 as part of the Black & Gold Invitational.
Southern Miss holds a 5-0 advantage in contests against the Lady Lions and are set to travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagles last took down UAPB in five innings by a score of 21-5 on Feb. 22, 2020. The Black & Gold have outscored the Lady Lions 66-12 in the five matchups.Â
The Golden Eagles take on Alabama tomorrow at 4 p.m., before traveling to Pine Bluff, Ark. for a doubleheader against the Lady Lions on Wednesday at 2 and 4 p.m. Tuesday's tilt will be streamed on CUSA.tv and broadcast live on 92.7 FM The Score.Â
