HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team is set to host the McNeese State Cowgirls on Sunday, March 13. The Golden Eagles look to improve to 5-0 at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex in 2022.
The Black & Gold last took the court at home on Thursday, March 3 against the Nicholls Colonels. Southern Miss (7-1, 1-0 C-USA) dispatched Nicholls by a score of 7-0, the first time the Golden Eagles picked up all seven possible points this season. Head coach Steve Schram's squad picked up its 27th-straight home win and its third sweep of 2022.
The Golden Eagles have been stellar in doubles competition, winning the first point of the match in all but one contest this season. Monique Burton and Sarah Medik defeated the then-No. 39 pair in the nation on Feb. 26 against Mississippi State, and the Black & Gold's pairs have gone 15-8 thus far this season.
The Golden Eagles are undefeated at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex thus far in 2022 and hold a winning streak in Hattiesburg that dates back to 2018. Head coach Steve Schram has yet to lose a match at home at the helm of Southern Miss' program.
Southern Miss is undefeated at home since 2018, and Schram has yet to drop a match in Hattiesburg at the helm of the program. McNeese heads to the Hub City with a record of 1-8, pending a Saturday afternoon tilt with New Orleans.
The Golden Eagles and Colonels have squared off six times since 2006, with Southern Miss holding a 4-2 advantage. Southern Miss won the last matchup between the programs, a 7-0 sweep on Feb. 15, 2020, in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles and Cowgirls have faced off twice since 2013, with McNeese holding a 2-0 edge on Southern Miss. The programs have not battled since 2015, and the Golden Eagles will look to close the gap with a win on Sunday.
