HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Off the heels of an impressive season-opener, the Southern Miss women's tennis team is set to face its next test on Saturday, Feb. 5. The Golden Eagles will take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.
The Golden Eagles last took the court on Jan. 29 in an impressive showing against Southeastern Louisiana. USM was slated to face off with New Orleans on Feb. 3 that was canceled due to inclement weather.
Freshman Alyssa Richter secured wins in both singles and doubles competition. She opened her collegiate career with a 6-2 doubles win alongside Ebru Zeynep Yazgan, followed up by a dominating 6-1, 6-0 singles performance to cap off a strong debut.
Clara Tardivel and Sarah Medik would put an end to Southern Miss' first match of the season, picking up dominant singles wins to clinch the match for the Golden Eagles.
Jacksonville State heads to Hattiesburg with an 0-2 record to start the 2022 season. The Gamecocks fell to Mississippi State to open the year, followed by a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Southern Miss' next opponent, Chattanooga.
Southern Miss has seen success against Jacksonville State in recent years, with head coach Steve Schram holding a 2-0 record over the Gamecocks. The Golden Eagles look to extend their home winnings streak to 25 matches, an impressive stretch that dates back to 2018.
