Southern Miss Continues Homestand Against FAU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's basketball team rolls on with a stretch of four home contests in seven days, welcoming Florida Atlantic for a 2 p.m. tip on Saturday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum. Watch | Listen | Live Stats Scouting the Owls • FAU is looking to bounce back from Thursday's loss at Louisiana Tech and earn its second Conference USA win of the season. • The Owls are in the middle of a three-game road trip with its matchup at Southern Miss being the second of three contests on this road stint. • Amber Gaston leads the Owls with 12.0 points per game and a .507 field goal percentage • Janeta Rozentale has a team's most 8.6 rebounds per game. • Kynadi Kuykendoll leads the way with 3.1 assists per game (61 total). • FAU has four Owls averaging double digits in scoring (Gaston, Rozentale, Rita Pleskevich and Alexa Zaph). • In C-USA standings, the Owls are third in defensive rebounds per game (26.85) and fourth in total assists (244). • Jennifer Sullivan is in her first season at the helm of the FAU women's basketball program. She is a 16- year coaching veteran and the sixth head coach in program history. On Saturday, she will be facing her collegiate coach in Joye Lee-McNelis, who was Sullivan's collegiate coach at Memphis. Scouting the Lady Eagles • Southern Miss senior Kelsey Jones is on pace to end her career with the best all-time field-goal percentage of any Lady Eagle to ever don the Black & Gold. The Starkville native has been over 55 percent in each season thus far of her career, as the redshirt senior is currently shooting at a 60.1 percent clip throughout her career. • Dating back to the 2019-20 season, Southern Miss is 20-1 when holding opponents under 70 points, with the only loss coming against FIU in OT last season. Consequently, the Lady Eagles are 0-19 when giving up 70 or more. • Southern Miss rotates through a 9-player lineup and has outscored their opponent off the bench, 388-265, including 32-0 against Blue Mountain to close the home nonconference schedule. The Lady Eagle reserves have accounted for 28.4 percent of Southern Miss points so far and have been in double figures in every game except one this season. • Southern Miss currently ranks second in Conference USA with 14.6 assists per game and have dished out 296 dimes on the year. Transfer Domonique Davis ranks second in the league with 81 helpers on the season.
