HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss men's tennis team will continue its five-match homestand on Sunday morning, as the Golden Eagles prepare to host UAB (2-4, 0-0 C-USA). First serve from the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is scheduled for 11 a.m.
"Having a conference match under our belts should be a good advantage for us, but UAB is a tough team that we saw in the fall," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Alan and Antoine are playing at a high level right now after both winning big matches on Saturday. Olimjon got a big win for us as well, but the doubles point is going to be huge tomorrow."
The Golden Eagles (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) are a day removed from falling 4-3 to Lamar. Southern Miss got wins from Olimjon Nabiev, Antoine Audrain, and Alan Sanson in the heartbreaking loss. It marked the first time the Black and Gold lost at home this season and moved them back to 2-2 on the season. Nabiev's win kept him undefeated this season and Sanson's moved him to 2-1.
The Blazers come into Sunday's contest following a 5-2 lossto Lamar on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg. Prior to that, UAB grabbed a 5-2 win against Buffalo on Feb. 12 to right a three-game losing streak. It also suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 21 Mississippi State to open the season in late January. Vojtech Podzemny is the only Blazer to reach the four-win mark and has won his last two matches. Junior Michael Lusovsky is 2-3 for the Blazers at the top position.
