HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â A week after notching its first home win of the season, the Southern Miss men's tennis team returns to the Southern Miss Tennis Complex to host UT Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (1-1, 0-1 C-USA) and Mocs (1-3, 0-0 SOCON) are slated to throw up the first serve at 2 p.m.
"The guys played very well last week, and it was nice to get that first win under our belts," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Overall, I thought we did a lot of good things. We worked on some small details during practice this week and look forward to another big match on Saturday."
Southern Miss is coming off a 4-1 win against Jacksonville State last weekend that saw three different Golden Eagles earn wins in singles play. Dhruv Sunish, Olimjon Nabiev, and Christopher Cahour all grabbed wins. Sunish and Shahril, along with Alexander Gima and Antoine Audrain, posted a pair of wins in doubles play to help Southern Miss secure the point. The doubles win by Sunish and Shahril moved the pairing to 2-0 this season.
The Mocs head to Hattiesburg on a two-game losing streak after dropping their last match, 4-3, to Belmont. Prior to that, UT Chattanooga picked up a win against Hampton before falling to Virginia Tech later in the day.Â
Saturday's match marks the second meeting between the two schools. The Golden Eagles cruised to a 5-2 win over the Mocs in 2002 at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
