Volleyball to Host Arkansas State with Handful of Promotions Scheduled

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team returns to the Wellness Center this weekend to host Arkansas State (5-15, 0-8 Sun Belt) in a pair of key Sun Belt Conference matches. The Golden Eagles (12-8, 4-4 Sun Belt) will celebrate Christmas in October during Friday's 6 p.m. content, while Saturday's 2 p.m. match will have a Block Out Cancer theme. 
Christmas in October - Friday
Fans can bring a toy to Friday's match to donate to a toy drive and will receive a free ticket to the game. All toys will be donated to kids in the Hattiesburg community. An ugly Christmas sweater contest will also take place during the match.Â
Block Out Cancer - Saturday
For every block made by Southern Miss, Raanes & Oliver Capital Advisors will donate $100 to go towards cancer research. Fans can donate HERE.
Golden Eagle Nuggets
- Libero Megan Harris is coming off a week where she was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. She finished with 33 total digs and leads the conference in digs per set and total digs.Â
- Mia Wesley surpassed the 1,000 career-kill mark in Saturday's match against Texas State.Â
- Kenzie Smith reached 2,217 career assists on Saturday and is now No. 10 all-time in program history for total assists.Â
- Southern Miss owns a 4-4 Sun Belt record after dropping both matches to Texas State last weekend.Â
- Cailin Demps went for eight kills in Friday's match and then added another seven kills on Saturday. Reagan Leinen had a nice showing on Saturday with seven kills.Â
- Nyanuer Bidit blocked five Texas State attacks on Saturday afternoon and Southern Miss got another four blocks combined from Liana Guillemaud and Leinen.Â
Scouting Arkansas State
- The Red Wolves own a 5-15 record with a 0-8 mark in conference play.Â
- They are coming off a pair of losses to Troy last weekend. Friday ended with a 3-1 score in favor of the Trojans, and Saturday was a 3-0 sweep from them.Â
- Macy Putt leads the Arkansas State attack with 260 kills and averages 3.66 kills per set.Â
- Arkansas State has a pair of setters in Lauren Musante (394) and Kassidy Reeves (257).
- Kyle Wiersema leads the Red Wolves with 53 blocks, while Sarah Martinez has a team-high 282 digs.Â
