Chambers and Richter Grab Win Over Alabama in Day Two of ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La.-- Day two of the ITA Southern Regionals Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. saw the Golden Eagles continue their outstanding play. Friday came to a successful conclusion with a victory over Alabama.
"Today was a good day for the team with a massive win in doubles for Alyssa/Hannah, winning a tough tiebreaker against Alabama.
Suhana and Clara punched their way into the main draw singles third round.
The goal for this tournament was to use their strengths at every given opportunity, and the girls raised themselves to the occasion, " said head coach Piyanart Engineer.
To start day two of the tournament returner, Suhana Das defeated Momoko Yoshimura of Louisiana in the singles qualifying round with two scores of 6-3. Followed by Alyssa Richter with her victory over Ana Rodrigues of Louisiana Tech 7-5,6-2. Shevita Aulana then fell to Sun Belt opponent Troy in three sets, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-6.
In the main draw round of 64 singles, Das kept her momentum with a win over Charlotte Russell of Tulane 6-2,6-2.
Unfortunately, in the round of 64 singles, Richter lost to Olga Bienzobas of Louisiana Tech 6-1, 6-3, while Chambers lost to Alessia Tagliente of Mississippi State 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The 6-4, 6-0 victory over Tulane's Brooke Theis allowed Clara Tardivel to push past the round of 64.
In the doubles competition for the round of 64 doubles, Richter and Chambers take the win over McNeese 8-6. However, Ricardo and Aulana fell 8-1 in their set against south Alabama.
Tardivel and Das defeated South Alabama 8-4 while dropping to Jacksonville opponents 8-4. Followed by Chambers and Richter's triumph in their tiebreaker against Alabama 8-7(4).
Day three will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. with one round of doubles and will follow with singles round of 32 and then round of 16 after.
