Women's Tennis Advance to Day Two of ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La.—The Southern Miss women's tennis team dominated the court in singles matches on Thursday at the ITA Southern Regionals, advancing to day two with three Golden Eagles in the main draw of the singles bracket.
"I am proud of the girls and how they stepped up to some good competition today.
The focus was on using their individual strengths and patterns of play," said head coach Piyanart Engineer.
Sophomore Alyssa Richter opened her tournament with a victory over Simona Maksimovic of Nicholls in the first leg of the qualifying round. She defeated Maksimovic by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 to advance to the round of 32.
Returners Maddison Ricardo, Shevita Aulana, and Suhana Das also advanced to the qualifying round of 32. With Ricardo's win over Tristanne Dechoux of New Orleans (6-1, 6-2), Aulana's defeat over Valentina Vasquez of Louisiana Tech 6-2, 4-6, 10-7, and Das's victory over Constanza Cruz of Nicholls 6-4, 6-3.
Ricardo fell to Delien Klienhans of South Alabama in the second round of qualifiers 6-3,6-1. Though Aulana, Richter, and Das kept their momentum, defeating Sun Belt opponents South Alabama, Louisiana, and Troy to move on to the round of 16 that will take place at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
