Men's Basketball Concludes Home Stint With Rice Saturday Afternoon

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss (6-13, 1-5 C-USA) men's basketball team ends its brief home stint this Saturday, Jan. 29, when it hosts Rice )11-8, 4-4 C-USA) at Reed Green Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CST and will be aired on ESPN+.

The Need to Know
- Southern Miss heads into Saturday's contest looking to shake a two-game losing streak after losses to Middle Tennessee and North Texas. The Golden Eagles held leads in both games.
- Junior Tyler Stevenson continues to climb the Southern Miss scoring ranks and is now No. 36 all-time on the scoring list with 1,057 points. He's 10 points from passing Roy Danfort (1958-62).
- Stevenson is averaging 14.4 PPG and 8.1 RPG. He is the highest-scoring player in C-USA to not make a three-pointer this season.
- Junior DeAndre Pinckney is averaging 12.3 PPG and 7.6 RPG in C-USA play and has scored at least eight points in all six C-USA contests. He's scored in double figures seven times this season, including a 15-point output against North Texas on Thursday night.
- Against North Texas, sophomore Mo Arnold tied his career high in assists with five. His previous season-high was against UNC Wilmington on Nov. 24.
- Freshman Rashad Bolden continues to shoot at an efficient clip after going 3-of-6 from the field against North Texas.
- Stevenson went for 29 points in the second game against Rice last season and finished with 10 rebounds to secure the double-double.
- Pinckney went for 14 points in the first game against Rice and then dropped 15 in the C-USA Tournament game against the Owls.
- Head coach Jay Ladner is one win shy of reaching 100 career wins between stops at Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Miss.
- Rice leads the all-time series against Southern Miss, 15-10. The Owls have won 11 of the last 13 meetings, including the last four.
- The Golden Eagles are 7-4 in games against Rice at Reed Green Coliseum. Their last home win came on Jan. 18, 2020.
- Southern Miss and Rice played all three of its game in Texas last year. The first two in Houston, then the two met in Frisco at the Ford Center at the Star.

- Rice is coming off a 17-point loss at Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. The Owls shot 32.8 percent from the field and hit just four of their 26 three-pointer attempts
- Quincy Olivari went for a team-high 18 points and Mylyjael Poteat added 15 points.
- Rice ranks 20^th in the country in three-pointers made per game (9.7) and 23^rd in three-point field goal percentage (32.8%). It's four three-pointers at LA Tech is the second fewest it has made in a game this season.
- Carl Pierre is averaging a team-high 15.1 PPG and is one of two owls averaging at least 10 points. Travis Evee is averaging 14.5 PPG.
- Max Fiedler, a six-foot-11 forward, is averaging a team-high 8.1 RPG and pulled down 10 against LA Tech.
- Rice is averaging 75.8 PPG and its opponents are averaging 70.7 PPG.
- The Owls are shooting at a 43.8 percent clip from the floor and 31.4 percent mark from three-point land.
- They are outrebounding opponents, 37.1-35.2.
- Rice leads all C-USA teams in APG at 15.7.

- The Golden Eagles head to FIU on Thursday, Feb. 3, and then to FAU on Saturday, Feb. 5. Tip in Miami is set for 7 p.m. CST and tip in Boca Raton is set for 3 p.m. CST.
