
Southern Miss Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Tangle with LA Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For the first time in the new year, basketball will be played in Reed Green Coliseum, as the Lady Eagles welcome LA Tech at 6 p.m. on Thursday night for their first home game in a month.

Scouting the Lady Techsters
• The Lady Techsters suffered their first home loss of the season falling to Southern Miss 65-59 last Sunday inside the Thomas Assembly Center. Tech dished out 18 assists, their second most assists of the season, while limiting their turnovers to just 11 in the loss.
• Sophomore Anna Larr Roberson registered her fifth double-double of the season and 12th of her career with 18 points and a career-high tying 15 rebounds. She continues to lead the Lady Techsters in rebounding while ranking second in C-USA with 9.7 boards per game.
• Junior Keiunna Walker became the 43rd Lady Techster in program history to surpass 1,000 career points with 17 points in the loss. Walker ranks amongst the conference leaders in scoring (5th, 16.8), free throw attempts (107) and free throws made (85). Her 107 free throws attempted and 85 free throws made ranks her third in the NCAA this season.
• Defensively, Tech ranks as one of the best defensive teams in C-USA. The Lady Techsters ranks third in both scoring defense (57.1 ppg), fourth in blocked shots (3.6 bpg) and in turnovers forced (20.1 tfpg), fifth in steals (9.9 spg) and sixth in field goal percentage defense (38.3%)
Scouting the Lady Eagles
• Daishai Almond, Kelsey Jones and Destiny Smith have all been with the Lady Eagles since their freshman season and bring a combined 256 games played to the table.
• Conference USA Co-Freshman of the Year Melyia Grayson is averaging close to a double-double through 14 games of her sophomore season. Grayson is second on the squad with 11.8 PPG and leads the Lady Eagles in rebounding with 7.8 RPG.
• Dating back to the 2019-20 season, Southern Miss is 16-1 when holding opponents under 70 points, with the only loss coming against FIU in OT last season. Consequently, the Lady Eagles are 0-17 when giving up 70 or more.
• Southern Miss has scored more than 50% of its points from inside the paint in all but four contests this season. The Lady Eagles scored their most points inside the lane this season with 56 points in the paint at WKU.
• Southern Miss has been getting after it on the offensive boards, as the Lady Eagles currently rank second in Conference USA and are 20th in the country averaging 15.8 per game through the first 14 games of the season.
