HATTIESBURG, MISS. – Fifth-year senior Kendell Mindnich (Melbourne Beach, Fla.-Melbourne HS) completed one of her most dominant games between the sticks as the Golden Eagles and Mean Green played to an entertaining, 0-0, draw on Friday night in Denton, Texas. Southern Miss stays unbeaten in conference play, progressing its record to 2-0-1 and 6-2-1 overall.
Kendell Mindnich stood on her head for the Black and Gold as she set a new single-game career-high with 13 saves on the night. The Floridian totaled the 13 saves, facing 32 shots, and earned all 110 minutes of play.
Junior Heidi Muller (Auerbach, Germany-Tyler CC) noted "In the second half and overtime, we showed what it means to be gritty and a team and worked together to bring the point back home."
Seven Golden Eagles competed for the full 110 minutes, with three coming off the bench. Junior Nolubabalo Sishuba (Cape Town, South Africa-Western Cape) was given the game's only yellow card.
Freshmen Ilana Izquierdo (Cali, Colombia-Commeva) led the team offensively with three shots, two of them being on target. Fifth-year senior Ariel Diaz (Lubbock, Texas-North Texas) also notched a shot during the match.
Izquierdo had the best chance for the Black and Gold in the 17th minute, beating the UNT keeper at the far post, however, it sailed just on the other side of the post. The two teams could not be separated even after two overtime periods.
The Golden Eagles venture back to Hattiesburg, Friday, Oct. 1, for a 4 p.m. kickoff against UAB.
