Golden Eagles Set Their Sights On North Texas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Black and Gold head to the Lone Star State, Friday, Sep. 24, to face off against the University of North Texas in Denton, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
"We are coming into this match fully aware that we need to put our best foot forward to compete for points. Our players worked hard this week to show they belong to be mentioned with top teams in the conference. The ladies are eager to show their qualities," said Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare.
"Obviously I am excited about this game I've been looking forward to this match-up. Throughout the past couple of games our team has shown so much growth and our chemistry continues to get better each time we step on the field," started senior Ariel Diaz. "I am excited to see what Friday brings. UNT is a strong program but I know we have what it takes to get the result on the road."
Series History: UNT leads series 5-1-1. The first game in the series was on Sep. 27, 2013, as the Golden Eagles and Mean Green drew, 1-1-, in Denton.

Caitlin Pierce opened the scoring in the 27th minute to give USM the early lead. Alice Campos then doubled the Black and Gold advantage in the 35th minute to give the match a 2-0 score at the break. UNT would notch one back in the 62nd minute, giving the final scoreline of, 2-1.
To The Top: The Southern Miss soccer team currently sits tied for 13th in the nation for points per game at 9.25 and tied for 21st in the nation for assists per game at 2.75, topping all other C-USA squads. They lead the C-USA West Division with a 6-2-0 record and a 2-0-0 conference record. The Golden Eagles also lead the conference in goals (26), goals per game (3.25), assists per game (2.75), and total points (74).
Freshmen On Fire: The Southern Miss freshmen have come in hot providing 52% of all Golden Eagle goals thus far. Colombian Ilana Izquierdo leads the convocation with five goals to her name, along with three assists. Technayda Cobyte, Mia Sadler, Ember Temple, and Ryan Smith all have two goals and an assist.
