Softball Prepares for Senior Night and C-USA Home Opener Versus UTSA

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagle softball team (20-14, 2-2 C-USA) prepares to host the UTSA Roadrunners (7-19, 1-3 C-USA) in a conference series featuring two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
Ensuing Sunday's doubleheader, the Southern Miss senior class will be honored for senior night. The ceremony is estimated to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. CT.
The contest will be held at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg and will be available for viewing on C-USA TV.

Golden Eagle's 2021 Senior Class
Heather Hill is a four-year letter winner having played in the infield throughout her tenure with the Golden Eagles. The Cabot, Ark. native has appeared in 122 games, driven in 34 runs, and recorded 60 career hits. Hill is a two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal Recipient and a two-time Conference USA Commissioner's honor roll select.
Karley Nichols has played multiple roles for the Golden Eagles starting in both the infield and outfield throughout her tenure at Southern Miss. The Brandon, Miss. native has appeared in 126 games posting a .292 career batting average. Nichols will continue to pursue a career in education ensuing graduation.
Destini Brown is a four-year standout having locked down center field for the last four seasons. The McComb, Miss. native has been tabbed as the C-USA Hitter of the week this season and as a freshman was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. She has posted a .302 career batting average accruing 139 hits. Brown leads the C-USA in stolen bases and has the second most steals in program history.
Alyssa (Tata) Davis is a four-year started who has appeared in 166 games throughout her tenure as a Golden Eagle. The Philadelphia, Miss. native has recorded a .279 career batting average, 134 career hits, and 104 RBI's. She currently leads the C-USA with 40 hits and has the team's highest batting average hitting .354 this season.
Amber Pack has boasted 75 appearances including 38 starts throughout her career with the Golden Eagles. The Brandon, Miss. native has put together a career .263 batting average, driven in 22 career RBI's and recorded six home runs. Previously this season Pack hit a two-run homer to solidify a win of UTEP in a conference matchup.
Jamie Powell has played infield for the Golden Eagles over her last four years as a Golden Eagle. In 2018 she was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Petal, Miss. native has made 41 career appearances recording eight hits and seven RBI's in the black and gold. In her junior season she recorded six RBI's to defeat Mississippi Valley State.
Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles split their last conference series versus UTEP winning game two and three of the series. The weekend saw outstanding performances form second baseman Alyssa Davis and right fielder Caroline Worrell. Davis drove in 10 runs over the weekend homering four times. Worrell was solid at the plate knocking the first homerun of her Golden Eagles career.
Golden Eagles to Watch
Senior Alyssa Davis continues to improve upon what has been a standout season increasing her batting average to .354 on 34 games played. She continues to lead the conference in hits with 40 on the season thus far.
Destini Brown continues to dominate for the Golden Eagles on the diamond hitting .280 with three triples and five home runs. Brown has been a force on the base path this season leading the conference with 22 consecutive steals.
True Freshman Karsen Pierce has been outstanding playing both at the plate and within the circle. She has a record of 4-3 on the season as a pitcher delivering the Golden Eagles a 2.46 ERA. As a hitter Pierce is batting .311 with 15 RBI's and 5 home runs.
A Quick Look at UTSA
In the Roadrunner's first conference series they fell to LA Tech in three games winning only game two of the series.
The Roadrunners are led offensively by Celeste Loughman who has a current batting average of .364 with 28 hits. Loughman has recorded 13 RBI's and four homers this season.
From the circle the Roadrunners have a team ERA of 4.65. Jamie Gilbert leads the team in ERA at 3.32 on the season.
The UTSA softball squad is led by head coach Michelle Cheatham who is in her eighth season at the helm of the Roadrunners.
