Softball Drops Two Games to UTSA in Saturday’s C-USA Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagle softball team (20-16, 2-4 C-USA) falls to UTSA in Saturday's doubleheader in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Game One
The Golden Eagles are defeated by the Roadrunners 5-1 to open the series.
Kaylan Ladner took the start for the Golden Eagles giving up five runs after pitching seven innings. Ladner who has been outstanding thus far moves to 9-4 on the season.
Alyssa Davis would plate a run the Golden Eagles only run of the game in bottom of the fifth inning on a line drive double to right center field.
The Golden Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit and dropped game one 5-1 after a seven-inning contest versus UTSA.
Game Two
The Golden Eagles would go extra inning with the Roadrunners in game two of the doubleheader but unfortunately dropped the contest 3-2 after eight innings.
Makenna Pierce took the start for the Golden Eagles pitching 7.2 innings. Pierce allowed only two earned runs on the contest limiting the Roadrunners to five hits and recording four strikeouts.
The Golden Eagle offense was led by senior left fielder Amber Pack who was red hot at the plate. Pack two doubles and a base on balls before the game was decided in the eighth.
McComb, Miss. native Destini Brown notched two hits of her own drawing a walk and recording an RBI. Brown would score one of the Golden Eagles' two runs with the other coming in the second inning from Maria Smith.
The Roadrunners would score an unanswered run in the eighth inning to claim a 3-2 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Next Time Out
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow versus UTSA in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. CT in Hattiesburg.
Southern Miss will honor the 2021 senior class after game two of tomorrow's doubleheader recognizing this season's six senior leaders.
