Softball Falls to North Texas in Sunday’s Doubleheader

DENTON, TX. – The Southern Miss softball team fell to North Texas in two games Sunday afternoon dropping game one 3-2 and game two 11-3 in Denton. Southern Miss moves to 20-25 this season.
Game one
The Golden Eagles started off strong taking an early lead on a two-run homer from Hannah Borden. Borden's home run would plate the only two runs of the game for the Golden Eagles.
Pitcher Morgan Leinstock was outstanding from the circle tossing a complete game pitching six scoreless innings for Southern Miss.
The Golden Eagles would ultimately fall to The Mean Green in the seventh inning losing on a walk off single.
Game two
The Golden Eagles struck first in game two scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the first. The Mean Green would take back the lead in the third inning with a two-run homer and an RBI single.
Senior Destini Brown led the Golden Eagles' offense recording a home run of her own in the top of the fifth inning.
The Golden Eagles would see pitchers Kaylan Ladner and Makenna Pierce. The two would combine to give up 11 hits and 9 earned runs.
The contest was ended early due to the NCAA's Mercy Rule resulting in a 11-3 Mean Green victory.
Next Time Out
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday, April 30 when the house Louisiana Tech at home at 6:00 p.m. (CT).
