EL PASO, Texas – The Golden Eagles split Friday's C-USA doubleheader falling to UTEP in game one 7-4 but came out strong in game two winning 10-1 after five innings.
Game One
The Golden Eagles started off hot at the plate in game one scoring four runs in the first inning. Southern Miss left fielder Amber Pack would hit a two-run blast in the top half of the frame recording the first home run of her senior campaign. Unfortunately, the four runs earned in the first inning would be the only scored by the Golden Eagles on the contest.
The UTSA Miners would chip away at the lead scoring in the second, third and fourth inning. The Miners hit a grand slam in the fourth that would prove to be enough to earn the win in game one.
Pitcher, Makenna Pierce would record the loss falling to 2-5 on the season.
Game Two
The Golden Eagles would take a completely different approach in game two putting their foot on the throttle from start to finish. The Golden Eagles struck first scoring two runs in the top of the first inning and followed suit plating three more in the second. Southern Miss would continue to pile on runs scoring 10 by the fifth and ended the contest early per the NCAA's mercy rule.
Right Fielder Caroline Worrell had a groundbreaking performance recording the first home run of her Southern Miss career.
Alyssa Davis continues to standout going a perfect four for four in the box, hitting two home runs and recorded five RBI's. Davis leads the Golden Eagles offensively with a .366 batting average.
The Kiln, Miss. native Kaylan Ladner dominated the Miner's lineup pitching a complete game allowing only one run. Ladner improves to 9-2 on the year.
Next Time Out
The Golden Eagles are back in action against UTEP tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. MT. Saturday's doubleheader will conclude the series for Southern Miss and UTEP.
