
Soccer Prevails in the C-USA Quarterfinal

HOUSTON, Texas – The Golden Eagles edged out Florida Atlantic Tuesday afternoon in Houston, Texas at the C-USA Championship winning 2-1 over the Owls.
Southern Miss advances to the semifinals and will face off against the winner of Rice and Old Dominion Thursday, April 15 on Holloway Field.
The Golden Eagles started the game off hot, taking three shots within the first 40 minutes of the first period.
The Cape Town, South Africa native Nolubabalo Sishuba would find the back of the net after taking three shots in the first half. Sishuba scored on a header, recording her first goal of the year and as a Golden Eagle.
At the break, the Golden Eagles held the advantage with a 1-0 lead.
It only took 30 seconds into the second half for senior Hailey Pohevitz to line a shot into the back of the net with her left foot, increasing the Southern Miss lead to 2-0. The goal would be Pohevitz' third of the year.
Senior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich continues to be a key fixture in the net recording six saves for the black and gold.
The Golden Eagles defense solidified the victory by holding the Florida Atlantic Owls to one goal.
Southern Miss awaits the winner of tonight's matchup between Old Dominion and Rice to identify its next opponent and C-USA Semifinal challenger.
