Softball Hosts Mississippi State on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team (18-11) will host Mississippi State (15-14) in an single midweek game Wednesday night (March 31) at 6:00 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Last Time on the Diamond
The Golden Eagles went on the road to Oxford to face off against the Rebels of Ole Miss.
Southern Miss fell to the Rebels 4-1 in Wednesday afternoon's contest moving to 18-11 on the season. Senior Heather Hill led the Golden Eagles offensively going 2 for 4 at the plate.
Golden Eagles to Watch
The Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs have met 18 times in program history. The Bulldogs leads the series with an all-time record of 15-3.
The Last Meeting
The two teams met last on March 11, 2020 in Hattiesburg resulting in a 7-2 Bulldogs victory. The game would concluded the Golden Eagles' 2020 campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Opponent
Mississippi State is led by Head Coach Samantha Ricketts, who is currently in her second season at the helm of the Bulldogs' softball program. Ricketts has been on the Mississippi State coaching staff since 2015, and has served as an assistant coach (2015-18) and an associate head coach (2018-19).
A former University of Oklahoma standout herself, Ricketts comes from one of the most decorated collegiate softball families. Her younger sisters Stephanie and Keilani were both All-American pitchers. Stephanie played for the University of Hawaii and graduated in 2012 and Keilani played for the University of Oklahoma and was named the 2012 and 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Keilani also played professional for the USSSA Pride of the NPF.
Mississippi State is coming off of a three-game set in Fayetteville, Ark. dropping games to Arkansas on Fri., Sat., and Sun. Over the series, the Bulldogs were outscored by the Razorbacks 14-10.

Ticket Information
A limited number of single game tickets are available for this weekend's game. First priority will be given to individuals who are on the waiting list for softball season tickets. There will be an additional release of student tickets while limited individual game tickets will be made available for advanced sale.
Individual game tickets will be sold only during the week of scheduled contests and will be available Monday at 8:00 am through Friday at noon each week. No tickets will be sold at facility box offices on gameday.

- Senior Destini Brown continues to dominate the diamond leading C-USA with 23 walks, 18 stolen bases, and 29 runs scored. Brown has recorded 18 consecutive stolen bases and remains a force to be reckoned with on the base path.
- Second baseman Alyssa Davis has logged a standout season thus far leading C-USA with 31 hits and 22 runs batted in. Davis leads the Golden Eagles with a .337 batting average.
- Kiln, Miss. native Kaylan Ladner is cruising from within the circle with a record of 8-1 on the season. Ladner has an ERA of just 1.32 on 53 innings pitched.
