Southern Miss Softball Sweeps Day Two of the Mercer Bears Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Southern Miss Softball sweeps day two of the Mercer Bears Classic clinching wins over Western Carolina and Mercer. The Golden Eagles beat Western Carolina 2-0 in game one, and continued their winning streak through game two winning 7-1 versus Mercer. The Golden Eagles advance to 16-9 on the season.
Game One
The Golden Eagles faced off again Western Carolina to kick off day two of the Mercer Bears Classic. Game one saw an outstanding effort from junior pitcher Kaylan Ladner. Ladner tossed a complete game recording 10 strikeouts and shut out the Catamounts. Ladner improves to 7-1 on another dominant performance.
The Golden Eagle plated two runs in the fifth inning on hits from Heather Hill and Karsen Peirce. The two runs would prove to be enough for the Golden Eagles to secure a 2-0 victory of Western Carolina.
Game Two
The Golden Eagles lit up the scoreboard in game two winning 7-1 over Mercer.
Destini Brown led the Golden Eagle offense recording two home runs and four RBI's.
Freshmen Natalie Hurdle and Maria Smith had outstanding performances at the plate accounting for two hits apiece. The duo would score three times on the contest.
Pitcher Morgan Leinstock threw a complete game allowing the Bears only one run and four hits. Leinstock earned the win and improved to 4-2 on the season.
Next time out
Southern Miss goes on the road to Mobile, Alabama to face off against the South Alabama Jaguars on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m. (CT). The Jaguars are 13-8-0 on the season.
