HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagles advance to 4-2 after edging out UTSA in San Antonio, Texas.
Southern Miss claimed their first C-USA victory of the 2021 season 3-1 over the Roadrunners.
First Half
The Golden came out strong with Jenny Caracheo scoring the first goal of the contest less than three minutes into the game.
The goal was Caracheo's second of her senior campaign after netting a game deciding goal earlier this season versus South Alabama.
Southern Miss would score again after 25 minutes of play when Ariel Diaz led an offensive charge that would extend the Golden Eagle lead 2-0.
The Golden Eagles' final score of the contest would come on a rifled penalty kick taken by JoAnnie Ramos. The goal would prove to be enough to solidify a conference win over the Roadrunners.
Second Half
The second half of the contest saw tremendous defense on both sides of the field.
The only score of the half came on a Roadrunner fast break less than 30 seconds after competition resumed.
Goal keepers Sarah Preston and Kendell Mindnich combine for 90 minutes of play and recorded six saves on the night.
The Golden Eagles play next in Hattiesburg when they host North Texas on March 21 at 1:00 p.m. (CT).
