Southern Miss Softball Travels to Mercer Bears Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagles make final preparations before the action-packed weekend in Macon, Georgia. The Mercer Bears Classic Invitational is the third tournament of the Golden Eagles' 2021 campaign. Southern Miss begins the tournament taking on Winthrop and Western Carolina Saturday, March 13 in back-to-back games at 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. (ET).
In day two of the tournament, Southern Miss will match up against Western Carolina and Mercer with game one beginning at 9:00 a.m. and game two at 11:15 a.m. (ET).
Last time out
Southern Miss (12-9-0) looks to improve their record after dropping a weekday contest to Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, March 10. The contest was a pitcher's duel coming down to the wire and concluding in a 1-0 Lady Lion's victory. Sophomore Morgan Leinstock made an outstanding start for the Golden Eagles from the circle striking out eight batters on four innings pitched. Offensively, Seniors Alyssa Davis, Destini Brown and Karley Nichols would account for three of the Golden Eagles' four base knocks

The Opponents
- Winthrop (8-10-0) enters the weekend on a two-game win streak after sweeping a doubleheader against College of Charleston. Southern Miss and Winthrop will face off for the first time in program history on Saturday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m.
- Western Carolina (3-11-0) dropped their last two contest in Virginia to Radford. The Golden Eagles and the Catamounts last met in 2011 resulting in a 4-2 Southern Miss victory.
- Mercer (7-8-0) in their latest contest fell to Georgia 6-0. The Golden Eagles and the Bears have met four times since 2010. The two teams last met March 1, 2020 resulting in a 5-2 Bear's victory. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 3-4.
