Southern Miss Men’s Tennis make 2021 Debut

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's tennis team opens the 2021 spring season this Saturday, February 27 versus UAB at 1:00 p.m. (CT) in Birmingham, Alabama. The Golden Eagles compete again this Sunday February 28 in a home matchup beginning at 12:00 p.m. (CT) versus Alabama A&M.
Southern Miss vs. UAB
The Golden Eagles and the Blazers have met 18 times in the previous 15 years. The Blazers lead the series with an all-time record of 13-5. The last time the two teams met was February 9, 2020 resulting in a 4-0 Golden Eagle victory.
Southern Miss vs. Alabama A&M
The Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs have met two times resulting in back-to-back Southern Miss victories. The teams last met April 13, 2017 when the Golden Eagles shut out the Bulldogs 4-0.
Highlighting the Golden Eagles
Head coach Zubin Engineer enters his eighth season with the Golden Eagles. The team features two new faces from Uzbekistan, Chile, and Malaysia. Engineer nears his 100th career win as head coach of the Golden Eagles.
This year's senior is Hsaing Yi Wang. The Taiwan native went 2-5 in singles last year alongside a doubles record of 4-5. Wang has earned valuable experience and looks to play a key role in the men's tennis squad's success.
