Southern Miss Softball Records a Dominate Road Victory

Freshman Karsen Pierce continues to dominate the diamond tossing a no-hitter and hitting a homerun.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles advance to 4-2 after winning Saturday's game vs. Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. The contest was ended in five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule. The Golden Eagles made quick work of the Jaguars recording a final score of 8-0.
Southern Miss started the game hot sending two towering home runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Karley Nichols led off the game with a homer quickly followed by freshman Karsen Pierce before the half-inning concluded.
After an explosive start and a home run in the top of the first, Karsen Pierce took her talents to the pitchers' circle. By the bottom of the third inning Pierce had accrued five strikeouts and slammed the door shut on the Jaguars by striking out the side. Following a record-breaking debut, the freshman remained red hot throughout the contest recording eight strikeouts and tossing the first no-hitter of her Golden Eagle career.
Offensively, Southern Miss racked up eight hits on the day and finding the long ball twice. The bats remained hot for the Golden Eagles until the contest was concluded.
On the defensive end, the Golden Eagles were immaculate on the diamond. Infielders: Heather Hill, Maria Smith and Alyssa Davis displayed outstanding defensive effort on the apron. The trio stacked multiple putouts throughout the contest.
The Golden Eagles host Southern University tomorrow at home February, 21 in a doubleheader at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
