Golf Tied for Ninth After Opening Day of Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Junior Southern Miss men's golfer Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) shot a under-one 71 to lead the Golden Eagles after the first day of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Sunday in Mobile, Ala.
Wilkinson posted his fourth round of par or below at the 7,212-yard, par 72 Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Southern Miss plays 18 more holes on Monday and complete the event with 18 more on Tuesday to finish the 54-hole event. The 14-team field will continue with a Monday morning shotgun start.
The Golden Eagles posted a team score of 295 to tie for ninth place in the event with WKU and host South Alabama.
Illinois posted a 14-under par 274 to lead the field after the opening day.
Freshman Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) and junior Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) each first an opening-round 74 to tie for 42nd place.
Senior Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) added a 76 to sit in a 64th-place tie, while freshman Warwick Purchase (Pretoria, South Africa) collected a 78 for a 78th-place finish.
