Men's Tennis Completes Leadership Reaction Course at Camp Shelby

The Golden Eagles were placed into squads and given certain tasks to complete. Camp Shelby members delivered orders for players to complete missions. The players, or leaders, were given mission instructions and then had to develop a plan to carry them out in the most effective way. Once that plan is developed, leaders had 12 minutes to complete the task. Leaders were to organize their team before briefing them on the mission that had to be completed. At "cease work", all work had to be stopped and teams had to step away for the work to be evaluated. Each team rotated to a new task after that with a new leader.

Head Coach Zubin Engineer...
"The Leadership Reaction Course was a great tool for our guys to develop good leadership habits. I thought that a lot of our older guys showed great leadership habits and were able to show the younger guys what it takes to be a great leader. The course was difficult, and I think it really showed our guys what it takes to be a great leader. I want to thank the staff at Camp Shelby for having us and I think this course will certainly translate onto the tennis courts."
Olimjon Nabiev...
"I always believed that tennis was an individual sport, however, college matches have changed my mind. To challenge our team spirit, we went to participate in the Leadership Reaction Course. I realized that teamwork is the only way to achieve a common goal. Everyone did their best and we were able to pass the obstacle course. Nine players were engaged like nine soldiers."
Alexander Gima...
"The trip for us last week at Camp Shelby was a really good experience. We improved our teamwork and our planning when dealt with a situation. The most important thing i learned here was that being a team with people you consider your own brothers."
Alan Sanson...
"Teamwork and good communication were the main point. Personally, I learned to listen more to my teammates while taking directions as well."
Dhruv Sunish...
"It was a lot of fun and an amazing experience doing the obstacle courses with the team. It was a great chance for us to bond as a team and learn to communicate with each other in a more efficient way. I think many of us showed great leadership qualities and a take charge attitude when backed into a corner. I was happy to see everyone get into it with a lot of enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards each situation we were given. For me, I felt like I was able to take charge of any situation and get the job done. It was great to see my teammates respect towards me and willingness to follow through on the suggestions I put forth. I would love nothing more than seeing us having such opportunities in the future too."
"I learned to listen to my teammate's ideas because I was not a team player before I got to Southern Miss. From that training I realized that teamwork makes the dream work. For the team, I realized that everyone wants to be a king in every challenge until one of the soldiers told us we only need one leader in every challenge so we can have one common decision made."
Christopher Cahour...
"It was a great experience. It was the first time I have done that and mixing physical strength and reflection skills was very fun to do. I think it really strengthened the cohesion of the team and now we know each other better."
Antoine Audrain...
"It was really fun and good for the cohesion of the team. We could clearly see the personalities of everyone. For example, I have been forced to play the role of the leader, which is not my favorite spot, but I know I can do it now."
"It was an incredible experience for me, and I believe for others too. The obstacles in each activity forced us to work together as a team. At first it was terrible because we just want to use our own ideas. Then we started to listen to each other's ideas, and we could get the mission done. I also learned that to be a good leader i need to make commitment and respect the crew. Finally, planning before execution can be applied to everything. Sometimes it is better to be slow regarding the saying, "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" saying."
Pasawee Reansuwong..."I would say it was an unbelievable time with my teammates. It was very fun and exciting. I learned how we can do well working as a team. It's all about planning, making decisions, and trussing each other. Individually, I learned that I had to build my own confidence to be a leader and had to be brave to command."
