AUBURN, Ala. — Southern Miss men's tennis closed a productive weekend at the CCB Collegiate Invitational, stacking reps in both singles and doubles, and capping it with a trophy.
With a wire-to-wire run, Southern Miss lifts the Bulldog Doubles trophy behind Jay Temming and Ritabrata Sarkar. The Southern Miss duo marched through the draw with authority, owning no-ad points and the middle of the court from the first ball to the final handshake. Their title run closed with a composed 6-2, 6-4 championship performance built on a high first-serve percentage, clean second-serve returns, and well-timed poaches that kept breaking serve. Communication was sharp all weekend. Temming directed traffic at the net, Sarkar set patterns off the return, and both finished with confident first volleys to close out tight games.
The Golden Eagles settled into doubles early and kept sharpening each round with more purposeful positioning, quicker reads on lobs, and smarter middle control on big points. Sarkar also added a straight-sets singles win, 6-2, 6-3, using backhand depth to flip neutral rallies and a sturdy hold pattern to protect leads. Across flights, USM picked up useful singles mileage in tiebreakers and third sets, with an emphasis on return depth and finishing patterns at the net.By Sunday, the checklist looked exactly right for October, serve-plus-one patterns were sharper, break-point conversion ticked up, and late-set execution stayed steady. Most importantly, the group left Auburn with a trophy. Proof of concept that their aggressive, connected doubles style can carry straight into dual-match season.
