MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - Southern Miss men's tennis wrapped up a competitive weekend at the Florida State Invitational at TOPS'L Tennis Courts, turning three days of high-level play against Florida State, Tulane, and South Alabama into valuable momentum for the rest of the fall.
Leading the way at the top spot, Jose Murariu put together a standout singles performance. He earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tulane's Hassaf, then followed it up the next day with a three-set victory over Florida State's Bracatelli 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Murariu closed his singles slate with a tight 7-6, 6-3 battle against South Alabama's Accossatto, showing he can trade punches with top-line players from across the region. His level and competitiveness on consecutive days set the tone for the Eagles.
Ritabrata Sarkar spent the weekend locked into long, physical matches of his own. While results went against him on the scoreboard in singles, he pushed through tight baseline exchanges and multiple close sets against lineups from Tulane, South Alabama, and Florida State, adding important reps at this level. Together in doubles, Murariu and Sarkar picked up an 8-5 win over Tulane, then battled through two more high-pressure outings against Florida State and South Alabama to finish 1-2, gaining clear feedback on first-serve percentage, return depth, and closing patterns at the net.
Southern Miss left Miramar Beach with a signature win at the top of the lineup, a quality doubles result, and a clearer picture of what travels against strong regional opponents. Those pieces now roll forward into the final stretch of the fall and preparations for dual match season.
