Southern Miss Falls to North Texas in Straight Sets

DENTON, Texas. -- The Golden Eagles fell in straight sets to the North Texas Mean Green on Friday night. Southern Miss falls to 10-9 on the season and 2-3 in Conference USA play.
Seven Golden Eagles posted multiple kills in the three-set match, while Kenzie Smith distributed 32 assists. Kinsley Hanback recorded eight kills with a hitting percentage of .400 to lead her team offensively.
Set One, Southern Miss 15, North Texas 25: Despite strong offensive performances from Duquesne Moratzka and Hanback in the opening set, the Golden Eagles dropped the first frame, 25-15.
Moratzka recorded five kills, while Hanback posted four with a hitting percentage of .375. Smith dished out 13 assists to open the match.Â
Set Two, Southern Miss 16, North Texas 25: The Golden Eagles fell behind early in the second set and were unable to recover. The Mean Green took a 2-0 lead after winning the set, 25-16.Â
Southern Miss made a valiant effort to come back in the second frame, mounting a 6-0 scoring run after trailing by a score of 19-8. However, the Golden Eagles could not complete the run. Mia Wesley led her squad in kills with four, while the Golden Eagle backcourt recorded 13 digs.
Set Three, Southern Miss 21, North Texas 25: Southern Miss battled hard in a close third set, dropping the frame to the Mean Green, 25-21. Smith posted four kills and 10 assists with a hitting percentage of .667 in the final set. Five Golden Eagles posted multiple kills in the final set and Wesley recorded two service aces.
