Former Baseball Players Finish 2021 Professional Seasons

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Eleven former Southern Miss baseball players played in affiliated Minor League Baseball this past spring and summer, including three position players and eight pitchers.
One player, Minnesota Twins farmhand Matt Wallner, played in a championship series for the High A Central title, but his club, the Cedar Rapids Kernels, fell 3-2 in the best of five game series to the Quad Cities River Bandits. Wallner will continue his 2021 as a member of the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League which will run from Oct. 13 with the league championship game set for Nov. 20.
Two former Golden Eagle pitchers that were drafted and signed this summer, Hunter Stanley and Ryan Och, will participate in instructional ball this month for the Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres, respectively.
