HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles look to secure their first Conference USA West Division title on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 28, as they take on the UTSA Roadrunners in their regular-season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Golden Eagles currently hold an 8-3-2 overall record and a 4-1-2 conference record with 32 goals scored and only 11 allowed.
Series History: The series between the Roadrunners and Golden Eagles are currently tied at 3-3-0. UTSA took the first competition between the two clubs, winning 3-0 in San Antonio.
Last Meeting: The Golden Eagles came out strong with Jenny Caracheo scoring the first goal of the contest less than three minutes into the game. Southern Miss would score again after 25 minutes of play when Ariel Diaz led an offensive charge that would extend the Golden Eagle lead 2-0. The Black and Gold final goal would come on a rifled penalty kick taken by Hailey Pohevitz two minutes later.
West Division Leaders: Southern Miss currently leads the C-USA West Division with 14 points. A win or draw in the regular-season finale would see the Golden Eagles clinch their first-ever Conference USA West Division title.
International Ingenuity: Sophomore Blessing Kingsley and senior Alice Campos co-lead the Southern Miss squad in terms of points (7) and goals (3) during conference play. Both have scored vital goals and have contributed to the C-USA high of 32 team goals.
End of an Era: Fifth-year senior, Kendell Mindnich will finish her career as one of the greatest soccer players to ever come through Hattiesburg as she looks to carve her name into more Southern Miss soccer records. The keeper from Melbourne Beach, Fla. will exit Southern Miss as the all-time leader in shutouts and will have the opportunity to lead in total wins and saves. Our captain also holds the single-season record in wins and shutouts. Mindnich is also the only goalkeeper in Southern Miss history to lead her team to three straight Conference USA Tournament appearances. During her time in the 'Burg, she has compiled many honors such as C-USA All-Tournament Team in 2018, C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal, and three C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week awards.
